Kier Natural Resources, Nuclear & Networks, Stantec, Yorkshire Water - Sladen Water Treatment Works

In partnership with Yorkshire Water and Stantec, Kier Natural Resources, Nuclear & Networks has successfully transformed the Sladen Valley Water Treatment Works to address water quality non-compliance.

By integrating Magnetic Ion Exchange (MIEX) technology and optimising flow management, the project achieved £1 million in savings, significantly reduced carbon emissions, and enhanced water quality standards while minimising the environmental impact on a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI).

Our innovative use of 3D-BIM modelling ensured safe, efficient upgrades to existing infrastructure. This project exemplifies sustainable, collaborative water treatment solutions that deliver substantial environmental and customer benefits.

Morrison Water Services and Thames Water - Lead pipe replacement

Morrison Water Services was awarded the Lead Pipe Replacement (LPR) scheme by Thames Water in 2023. Morrison Water Services’ LPR team is responsible for identifying and replacing a network of communications pipes across North and South London.

The project is aimed at reducing overall lead levels to below the regulatory requirement of 10ug/l, as measured at Thames Water customers’ taps. Work includes planned pipe replacements in domestic properties, schools and nurseries; reactive replacements and customer-led replacements.

National Grid & Accenture- Doorstep - NG's Newest Community Engagement Platform

National Grid’s latest community engagement platform, Doorstep, is already empowering collaboration between energy companies and communities to drive positive outcomes.

Since launch in January, Doorstep has proven significant shifts in public sentiment with results up to 35% with our first customer, Community Offshore Wind. The tool can be applied globally across NG – showcasing National Grid’s commitment to engaging/educating communities, fostering collaboration, and providing real-time information on capital projects.

National Grid is revolutionizing community engagement, amplifying voices, and creating a brighter future for energy projects while enabling its £60 billion 5-year capex plan to deliver infrastructure needed for the energy transition.

National Grid Ventures - Viking Link HVDC Interconnector

VikingLink is a 1400MW Bipole HVDC electricity interconnector that connects the electricity systems of the UK and Denmark. Operational since 29th December 2023, it consists of a HVDC Converter Station at each end, with HVDC cables connecting the converter stations.

VikingLink enables the sharing of green energy between UK and Denmark, estimated to save more than 600,000 tonnes of carbon emissions in its first year.

The £1.7 billion project was delivered under budget and ahead of time, achieved through innovative project management and world class stakeholder and supplier engagement overcoming challenges such as Brexit, COVID and the Ukraine conflict.

Northumbrian Water - Layer to Langford Pipeline

In 2016, and again in 2022 low levels of rainfall and hot weather meant unprecedented demand was placed upon our water treatment works (WYW) at Hanningfield, Essex. Water levels in Hanningfield reservoir dropped to levels not seen since the summer of 1996.

To mitigate this occurring again, Northumbrian Water Group (NWG) applied for funding in AMP7 to construct a 20km, 900mm diameter pipeline allowing water transfer between our two reservoirs Abberton and Hanningfield.

The pipeline will allow NWG to balance the water levels in both reservoirs, and mitigate a potential scenario where low water levels compromise our service to customers.
