Avove and iNPIPE PRODUCTS - Delivering smart-pigging innovation to the water industry

Leading infrastructure services and engineering company, Avove, is at the heart of designing, maintaining and transforming utilities, providing cutting-edge and sustainable solutions.

As part of the Vyrnwy Aqueduct Modernisation Programme (VAMP), Avove is designing, constructing, testing and commissioning three pipelines in Siphon 1 between Malpas and Cotebrook (over 18.75km).

In collaboration with iNPIPE PRODUCTS, Avove has brought innovative and sustainable design and delivery techniques to the forefront of the industry: the way Avove has approached the inspection, cleaning and relining of pipelines that carry water underneath Cheshire, and the infrastructure surrounding the project, has been groundbreaking.

Cognizant, Northumbrian Water and partners

Managing catchments and securing river health in isolation is insufficient for long-term sustainability. Cognizant and its consortium of partners have established a collaborative framework that integrates digital assets, sensor data, GIS, and AI/ML models to tackle the complex challenges of river health.

This cross-sector collaboration, combining expertise from water utilities, research institutions, and technology providers, aims to deliver an open-source model that showcases the impact of partnership in advancing the ecological status of rivers. Together, we set a new benchmark for multi-stakeholder collaboration in enhancing environmental resilience across the UK.

Electricity North West, Energy Saving Trust and Citizens Advice - Take Charge - Energy and Money Advice You Can Trust

Facing the second highest fuel poverty levels in England, the North West needed a solution to empower our region with trusted energy and money-saving advice.

‘Take Charge’ is an innovative campaign led by Electricity North West and delivered in collaboration with the Energy Saving Trust and Citizens Advice, which has catapulted ENW to become a leading DNO for fuel poverty support.

‘Take Charge’ normalises the conversation around seeking help with a vibrant identity, providing tangible support. In its first year, we’re proud to have exceeded targets delivering £8.55 million in social benefits, whilst delivering a customer satisfaction rating of 95.3%.

Morrison Water Services and Anglian Water - Enhanced Pressure Monitoring Programme

The Anglian Water (AW) Enhanced Pressure Monitoring Programme is aimed at delivering high resolution pressure monitoring across the AW region, which spans 27,500km2 from Northamptonshire in the west to Norfolk in the east, and from Essex in the south to South Yorkshire in the north, alongside Hartlepool.

Delivered by Anglian Water, Morrison Water Services, Hydrosave and the Water Research Council, the five-year initiative is efficiently reducing interruption-to-supply events. Supply throughout outage levels are being identified and customers continuously have safe and clean water. Capital scheme delivery is also being monitored through the continuous verification of pre-work and post-work data.

Northern Gas Networks and BMA - Costing the Carbon Commitment – Unlocking multi-stakeholder collaboration across the whole energy value chain

Achieving a cost-effective transition to a net zero energy system by 2050 will require extensive collaboration between stakeholders across the energy value chain, from government, to regulators, to system operators, to supply chain participants, and to the investors. Collaboration only happens however if stakeholders can coalesce around a shared pathway view where the data, assumptions, dependencies, trade-offs, and ultimate recommendations are sufficiently detailed, complete, and believable. This project demonstrated that by taking a whole system evidence-based approach and leveraging the right technologies to ensure complex modelling is accessible and understandable to a range of stakeholders, effective collaboration is achievable.

Southern Waster and the DfE - SuDS in Schools to reduce flooding, schools closures and storm overflows

SuDS in Schools is a match-funded programme by Southern Water and the Department for Education, championing nature-based solutions to manage surface water and the problems it causes.

Sustainable drainage systems (SuDS) have been installed in nearly 100 schools across the south to help prevent closures caused by flooding. These SuDS have managed over 117 million litres of rainwater so far.

They will also also slow the flow of surface water into the combined sewer system, thereby reducing storm overflow releases to the environment.

The project has provided a valuable hands-on learning experience for students on gardening, biodiversity and water responsibility.

SP Energy Networks, Grŵp Llandrillo Menai, QA Elecnor, Emerald Power, Network Plus and partners - SPEN Overhead Line Service

SP Energy Networks’ overhead line project addresses the critical skills shortage in the overhead lines sector within the energy industry, with the aim of building a sustainable workforce for the future. The project is a collaborative effort between SP Energy Networks, Grŵp Llandrillo Menai, and several supply chain partners, including IQA Elecnor, Emerald Power, and Network Plus. Launching in January 2024, the partners have developed a new training course, giving trainees the experience they need to work on the electricity network and apply for roles across a range of energy services. Two cohorts of 16 have already been successfully trained.
