Firstsource with E.ON Next - Service Excellence Training Program
The global skilling gap is critical, with 44% of workers needing reskilling by 2027. 70% of UK employers struggle to find skilled workers. Since 2018, Firstsource has partnered with E.ON, playing a pivotal role in its transformation to E.ON Next with a focus on digital transformation and sustainable energy. To meet the evolving needs of E.ON Next, our Capability Development team implemented a robust training strategy. This focused on both short-term skills training and long-term career development. The results have been impressive, with reduced onboarding challenges, faster skill acquisition, and a more engaged workforce equipped to handle future challenges.

The plan anticipates the skills needed in the future, focusing on our employees continuing professional development and career progression. We have commissioned and implemented the first capability assessment tool.

SSE has invested more than £2.5 million in a world-class safety leadership training centre with an ongoing annual cost to supply training in Scotland and from centres in London and Hull. 12,000 employees and contract partners will attend the course each year.

UK Power Networks - Mind the Skills Gap!
The energy sector faces significant skills shortages as it navigates the transition to Net Zero, particularly in STEM fields. UK Power Networks uses an evidence-based approach to plug the gap via skills and training, using insight from stakeholder engagement, benchmarking against best practice and alignment with Ofgem’s guidance.
The company tackles industry skills shortages by recruiting diverse talent, offering comprehensive training, and promoting continuous development, ensuring career progression and business excellence.
This enables school leavers without qualifications, high achievers lacking teams, and managers without formal training to flourish and support Britain’s green industrial revolution, delivering social, customer and industry benefits.
Utilita Energy - Meet the new Smart(er) Meter Apprenticeship
Utilita’s unique Smart Metering Apprenticeship, created in conjunction with Cheshire College South & West, has been designed to plug the smart meter engineer gap and equip newly trained engineers with the knowledge and skills required to overcome a range of commissioning challenges.
Access to ‘live smart meter commissioning rigs’ at Utilita’s Warrington Training Academy simulates a ‘real home’ scenario, which benefits the customer as each install can be completed faster. The apprenticeship can deliver 1,500 highly skilled smart engineers annually, boosting the smart rollout. Once trained, upskilled engineers can install low carbon technologies, further supporting the journey to net zero.
