Electron
Electron’s purpose is to accelerate the energy transition by unleashing renewable abundance. To do this, we're transforming the way energy is traded to unlock resilient, low-cost, zero-carbon energy systems. Our flexibility market platform, ElectronConnect, helps network utilities adopt flexibility markets to manage grid congestion, improve connection rates, and lower bills – and we have partnered with three utilities so far in the UK to make this a reality. The platform is built for flexibility at scale, with more markets, running more often, and in a more connected way – so utilities can optimise their electricity networks, fast, for a decarbonised energy future.
Lucy Electric
In partnership with DNOs like UK Power Networks, Lucy Electric, a leader in Secondary Power Distribution, has developed the first Ring Main Unit (RMU) that does not utilise the greenhouse gas SF6 for insulation, thereby decarbonising crucial network infrastructure and part of the supply chain. Sabre EcoTec is the UK’s first synthetic air RMU designed to meet UK medium voltage applications and is available ahead of an anticipated ban in 2026. After four years development and close cooperation with DNOs, EcoTec is helping grid operators achieve NetZero and enabling them to save more than 33 tonnes of CO2 per unit.
M Group Services
Morrison Data Services, the leading provider of metering services to the UK’s utilities market, has introduced key initiatives over the past 12 months to improve the efficiency of meter reading activities and drastically reduce the carbon footprint of their operations. These are part of the One Data Collection initiative, which allows water and energy meters to be read during the same visit schedules, and Project Levi, which uses AI to optimise routes, allowing more meters to be read per day. Both initiatives allow greater efficiency and reduced vehicle travel requirements, reducing emissions and cost to serve for utility retailers.
Octopus Energy and Settld
Settld - a service of The Estate Registry - is a digital bereavement notification service that provides executors, and others handling the affairs of someone who has died, with a free and easy way to notify over 1,500 companies. Settld’s new partnership with Octopus Energy is transforming the way bereavement is handled by the utilities sector. The partnership has saved bereaved families hundreds of hours of admin and stress. Users can submit one form to notify multiple companies of a death in one go, with the details and documents stored in one secure place.
Scope
There are 16 million disabled people in the UK, many still facing inequality. Life costs more if you are disabled and in response to this and the impacts of the pandemic, Scope launched Disability Energy Support (DES) in 2020, providing energy advice to disabled individuals. DES has helped over 26,000 disabled people with tailored energy advice. This year we have helped over 8,800 and over 88,000 have visited our energy online pages. Scope’s Disability Price Tag 2024 finds disabled households need an extra £1,010 per month to maintain the same living standards, showing the need remains, amid energy price increases.
